SUPER DODGE BALL

"Like the NES version... on roids!"
Technos's Super Dodge Ball was originally released in 1987 via arcade, but it's the Nintendo (NES) version that most of us probably played growing up. One of the few good head-to-head NES games, Super Dodge Ball pitted the best dodge ball teams from around the world to "smash" it out on the way to the world championships. This 1996 NeoGeo version plays just like the original... except on roids!
Super Dodge Ball's Neo Geo version takes everything we loved on the NES/original version and amps it up to 11!
"These graphics are dope!" |
Graphics: Neo Geo always does it right! Each character sprite and level design is unique and well designed, just like the original version, they're memorable and add to the overall enjoyment of the game! These graphics are dope!
Gameplay: For this game to be done right, the game play has to be spot on... and it is! Split second timing to throwing and catching is the essence of this game. In addition to the original catch/throw/jump basics of the original, NeoGeo added a "faint" to fake out your opponents. Passing between teammates is easier, overall the gameplay is fan-freakin-tastic!
Music: It's great!

Overall: This is a great version of Super Dodge Ball that I wish I had on a home console version to play (I do have a MAME Cabinet, but let's stay on topic). If you loved and played the hell out of the original NES version like I did, play this one! The online flash version may take some getting used to, however, it's worth a try! I may be a little bias however, but I love this game!
9 / 10
